2016 WDW–Check Out Nature!

April 8, 2016–I thought going on a Thursday evening would be a good time to visit Disney Springs (formerly Downtown Disney).  What a mistake!  After a long, hot day of exploring, I found myself in the middle of a sea of people.  It was bustling, had lots of entertainment, and it was festively lit…but it would have been much more fun had it not been so crowded!

After I finished eating some Chicken Nachos at the Smokehouse (not my favorite but I enjoyed the live entertainment on their patio), I wanted to do some window shopping but it was too crowded.  I swam back upstream to the shuttle area and hopped a bus back to my hotel (All-Star Movies Resort).

The next morning I headed back to Disney Springs.  Much better!  It was not crowded at all, but the ambiance just wasn’t there.

My friend, the Turtle

I was able to get a Starbucks with only two people ahead of me.  I took my Frappe back to the boat launch and waited for the water taxi to take me to Port Orleans French Quarter to experience a beignet, one of the three things on my list of “must-do’s” on this, my first trip to WDW.

While I was waiting, a turtle swam by and stopped to look at me.  He waited for several seconds before I got the message and took a picture of him.  Three ladies from Saratoga Springs Resort were walking down the path toward me so I turned their attention to my new friend, the Turtle (I knew that he would appreciate that).

While I was waiting for the water taxi, I looked up and found a large bird with a long beak in a nest about 80 feet up in a tree.  I pointed this out to the ladies and one of them said it was a heron.  Pretty cool!

How many people would pass by these things and never see them?  There is SO MUCH to experience in and around Walt Disney World…and nature is one of them!

TIP:  Check out Nature!!  But remember…they are NOT part of the cast members!  Be careful and respect their territory!
